Do You Still Dare To Imagine?
Your contribution, great or small, will help DanceNOW to turn ‘a whim of an idea’ like Doug Elkins’
Fräulein Maria, David Parker’s
Show Down, Monica Bill Barnes’
Another Parade, Nicholas Leichter’s
Spanish Wells, Brian Brook’s
I am Going to Explode and Cherylyn Lavagnino’s
Facets, into a full and masterful work to be enjoyed by audiences across the country and beyond.
In 2010, despite decreased city support, our state funding in limbo and the uncertainity of private foundation support, DanceNOW will dare to imagine two new shows at Joe’s Pub, Nicholas Leichter and Monstah Black’s The WHIZ:
Emerald City in March and John Heginbotham’s
One Man Show in June, a RAW Festival marathon event in April, in partnership with NYU’s Tisch School for the Arts to identify young talent, and an exciting new Festival season in September at Dance Theater Workshop.
We have been letting our imagination rule for fifteen years, doing more with less. A small presenting arts organization without a venue of our own and minimal resources, we have presented, promoted and advanced the careers of thousands of dance makers through the highly successful, unique and vital cultural programs we have created. We dared to imagine that the tiny ‘dancenow’ program of the Soho multi-arts festival would evolve into a premiere event of the New York dance season, offering the ‘best of the best’ at New York City’s preeminent modern dance theater – Dance Theater Workshop. We dared to take dance to Joe’s Pub, where the very limitations of this hip music venue has been the inspiration for artists to take a creative leap and where the intimacy of the space creates a level of excitement and a visceral experience that has done much to grown new and enthusiastic audiences for dance. We dared to imagine that the Silo Artist Residency on Kirkland Farm in Pennsylvania would become a haven for hundreds of artists, as well as provide paid teaching opportunities and commissions to create new work for the students at DeSales University, with whom we have partnered since 2007.
We ask you to continue to ‘dare to imagine’ with us and make a contribution of between $15 to $150, as you can, in celebration of DanceNOW’s 15th Anniversary Season.
We thank you in advance for supporting our work.
It is truly the time to imagine!
Robin, Sydney and Tamara
