"A Triumph of Vision Over Common Sense" - The New York Times 2008
The Raw Festival
The Raw Festival series was created in 2008, in partnership with the Queens Council on the Arts and New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, to replace the Upclose Festival studio series, as a better means to identify and bring new artists from the boroughs and universities into our programming.
The Raw Festival studio series was designed to promote emerging choreographic voices and artists previously unseen by the Producers of DanceNOW[NYC]. While serving as a means to identify works for the Fall Festival at the Dance Theater Workshop, this program provides valuable exposure for artists, as well as access to a rich peer network, subsidized photographers, videographers, and producers from other dance presenters in New York City.
In 2010, DanceNOW will partner with New York University’s Tisch School for Dance to present RAW - a marathon dance event - open-to-the-public, low-tech and upclose and personal. Artists that have not been previously presented by DanceNOW[NYC] can ONLY apply for the Raw Festival, whereas artists previously presented by DanceNOW[NYC] may apply for both Raw and the Fall Festival at DTW.
