Silo Artist Residency Program

Historic Kirkland Farm

“Silo is a jewel, a haven, a place you can really hear yourself think, breathe deeply in, and make marvelous, unpredictable strides in new directions.”             Choreographer Keely Garfield

In addition to DanceNOW [NYC] ’s performance season, DanceNOW [NYC] supports the artistic dreams and endeavors of innovative urban dance makers by providing New York City area choreographers with unlimited free rehearsal space, housing in the guest house and rare and focused creative time at Kirkland Farm in the heart of Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley.  Located just 76 miles from NYC, Silo is highly accessible to the NYC dance community, offering urban dance artists an inspiring haven in which they can come together to create, process, rehearse, or just escape the pressures of city life.

“Great partnerships such as the one we have formed with DanceNOW [NYC] are forged out of mutual interests and a desire to perpetuate the vibrant originality that exists in dance today.
Timothy Cowart, Director of the Dance Department at DeSales University

Known in the 1950's as the genuis belt, Buck's County is once again bustling with cultural activity, attracting artists and audiences. With this in mind, DanceNOW [NYC] partners  with DeSales University and several other cultural organizations and presenters in the area.  Working together to bring emerging and established dance artists from NYC to Lehigh Valley, DanceNOW [NYC] provides guest artists with free rehearsal space to encourage the creation of new work, as well as paid teaching and performance opportunities in the area’s colleges and public schools, offering communities of Lehigh Valley the opportunity to experience a vast and diverse array of dance styles.

Following the huge success of Silo’s inaugural Dinner Dance Series, in partnership with the Palisades Community Foundation, that previewed David Parker and The Bang Group’s ShowDown before its NYC premiere in 2008, Bridget Wingert of The Bucks County Herald wrote,  “It was like the old days of barn theaters when city dwellers brought their new productions to the country.”
